Weatherly Casting is capable of heat treating castings to increase strength and durability, improve corrosion resistance, or impart properties required to further process the part for service.
Our heat treatment equipment consists of an oil-fired car bottom furnace that can hold 16,000 pounds. Furnace dimensions are 12 feet wide x 20 feet deep x 8 feet high.
In addition to the large car bottom furnace, there are two electric resistance furnaces.
The first is a top-hat-style furnace of 10 feet x 5 feet x 4 feet. It has a temperature range of up to 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit (1,200 degrees Celsius). This furnace also has water quenching facilities and two hearths (cars) for unloading and loading in cycle with the heat treatment process.
The second is a front-load furnace of 3 feet x 3 feet x 6 feet. It has a temperature range of up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit (1,093 degrees Celsius).
Uniform furnace temperatures are maintained through continuous real-time monitoring by programmable controllers. Uniform temperature distribution is regularly audited in 12 different spots around the furnace via a Honeywell strip chart recorder. This provides precise and accurate heat treatment cycles.
All recording and monitoring equipment is calibrated and maintained in accordance with quality assurance procedures.
